I had the pleasure of getting these samples of the new Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet collection from Anastasia Soare herself at a dinner in London last week. She even told me her favourite shade. Here’s the low down on this new matte lip colour, with photos and swatches.
What is Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet?
- Weightless lip mousse with full pigment
- True-matte finish
- Offers cushioned, comfortable wear
- Soft focus effect diffuses the appearance of lip texture
- Smoothing and moisturising
- Teardrop-shaped cushioned wand to line & fill quickly
- Available in a range of nude shades – Space NK* currently have the most shades available
How to apply Lip Velvet
This formula is really easy to apply thanks to the shape of the applicator which hugs the lip line, and fills really quickly.
The brand recommend using the point of the wand to trace around the cupid’s bow and line the outer edges of the lips. Then use the flat side to fill the lips with colour.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet Shades & Swatches
There are six nude shades in this collection:
- Parchment
- Peach Amber
- Crush
- Pure Hollywood
- Peachy Nude
- Kiss (Anastasia’s favourite shade)
Swatches
I have the swatches of the full collection here. This is Parchment, Peach Amber, Crush, Pure Hollywood, Peachy Nude and Kiss:
My Review
I first tried the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet at the brand dinner for the product launch and I applied it in fairly dim light so I couldn’t really see what I was doing. The wand makes application pretty easy, as the point can be used to line the lips, before swiping the formula across the lips for full coverage.
When I checked in better light, it looked good, so these Lip Velvets are really not hard to work with.
I went for shade Kiss, which is Anastasia’s nude of choice, and it is such a pretty shade.
The texture of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Velvet is really nice. It feels soft, smooth and bouncy, and really cushions the lip with colour. Although it is a longwearing matte formula, there is still some movement and slip in the consistency, so it doesn’t feel like it is drying down, or drying out the lips.
For the best results, you want to make sure that there aren’t any dry or flaky patches on your lips, so I’d suggest a quick scrub and a very light layer of a non-glossy lip balm to prep. Check out my Best Lip Balms for Dry Lips post.
Having said that, even if you do have a little dryness, the finish of the Lip Velvet is very good at smoothing over any texture and blurring any imperfections. It is pretty impressive.
The formula lasts well on the lips, although you will have to top up after eating, but as the formula is pliable and moisturising, and it layers well, this isn’t a problem.
There is a nude here for everyone, and I am excited to try a couple of the others. I also really like the look of Pure Hollywood and Crush. Parchment will be great on fair skin tones like mine for a real nineties vibe.
