Ferveur is aptly named for me, as my desires were burning when I first smelled it. I’d been flirting with getting the wonderful Le Galion classic, Special for Gentleman, but Ferveur’s fresh dark aromatics with woody vanilla greens that blur into soft dry spices conjures a fever dream of powdery cacao in my head, one that bristles with spices over the most elegant amber leather, feeling as smooth as incense smoke, while still being supple yet tough. There’s a stunning duality at play in Ferveur, as it’s soft powderiness rubs up against that darkly spiced leather forming an intoxicating groove.

When Le Galion’s classic Cologne was re-released in 2016, perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux, to borrow a concept from Duran Duran, gave us a Night Version in his Cologne Nocturne, a perfume that brings the classic spirit of Paul Vacher into the current age. From the very beginning of Duran Duran’s career, the band had dubbed their extended dance remixes “night versions”, as they were intended for play in nightclubs. Rather than just cutting and looping the old masters, the band went back into the studio and recorded longer versions of the songs with more instrumental breaks and usually with a more up-tempo feel too. Here with Ferveur I feel Rodrigo Flores-Roux is back the lab creating his own Night Version magic taking the stunning 1947, Paul Vacher classic, Special for Gentleman and leading it by its hand out into the hedonistic clubs of the 1980’s, giving it an edge with a twist of darker incensed spices, slicking back its hair, putting a sleek black leather on and definitely wearing its sunglasses at night.

I love Ferveur’s powdery feel with the citrus spice and soft floral leather slowly smouldering with spices as darker amber elements are set free out into the night. Ferveur by Le Galion is certainly giving me the fever for the delights of the night, making me think of the Cramps cover of the 1950’s Peggy Lee classic “Fever”. Though Ferveur has its desires set in France, maybe this is more “Le Cramps”, as it drips with that brooding sensuality and French je ne sais quoi. Ferveur has facets that blur the line between tough and gentle, letting its warm spices purr as they’re teased out by rich balsamic resins. Amber gentle billows from below forming a rich softly smoky incense, that plays beautifully against the more earthy delicious delights of patchouli as it moves out to the dance floor with a dark vanilla in tow. Quite like the Cramps’ Fever, high bright aromatics jangle like guitars, grabbing attention, giving the rich deeper amber bass notes space to burn and wrap you in their smoky vanilla mystery.

Iris and rose bring a soft luxurious feel to this tough leather, blooming from the warmth of clary sage and cypress greens letting the rose’s petals unfurl with an exotic velvety texture. There’s something kind of magic I find impossible to put into words that lurks in the heart of Ferveur by Le Galion, it oozes this sensual allure, in a coy flirty way, a held look across the dance floor as that soft powdery clean floral feel sneaks this sexiness through under its innocence gaze, as wisps of dark incense smoke purr, whispering of desire. Grace Jones-esque, Ferveur hums with Ms. Jones’ innate sexuality and like how her music flows, the notes move together in a insatiable way, letting the warm resins darken the innocent sweetness. Vanilla’s kisses slip out of this voluptuous silky smoke capturing your attention and pulling you up to the bumper for a more intimate dance. Balsamic resins whisper of wild intensities as you get close, blurring into intimate growls lurking in the heart of Ferveur by Le Galion, giving it a silky-smooth seductive sensation as it moves through the night, in an effortlessly cool elegant way.

The more Ferveur dries down the more its darker rich vanillas bloom, trapping within them a smoky amber incense. Labdanum hums with a Zen darkness, as the spices become soft embers fizzling of incense under this powdery aromatic leather delight. I love how the hard and soft elements play off each other, like two bodies sliding over and into each other on the dance floor as Ferveur by Le Galion dries down into a softly sensual musk, glowing with warm spices and woods, letting its darkly delicious smoky vanilla give a you the fever and an entrance you with its rhythm. This will be a signature scent for me.
