      Luster Products Inc was founded in 1957, we’ve been in business for 67 years. 

      Q: Who was Luster Products founded by?

        A: It was founded by late grandfather, Fred Luster Sr, who was a barber and barbershop owner on the southside of Chicago. His clients would frequently complain about their itchy dry scalp and hair, so he took it upon himself to create a product that addressed their hair and scalp needs.

        Q: What is your role in your family business?

        A: My official title is Chief Officer of the Pink Brand, however, as a third-generation Luster, I am involved in many different aspects, as this is a family business. I work closely with our R&D team, which is run by my uncle Freddie Luster Sr., for product development. We have family members in management all over the company, so I work closely with them as well including but not limited to production and operations. My father, Jory Luster Sr, is not stuck on titles within our organization, he believes all should pitch in to get the job done. Therefore, when something needs to be done, I will jump in to ensure our bottom line is covered. 

        Q: Why do you all remain a family-owned and black business?

        A: My grandfather knew that Luster Products Inc was more than just a hair care manufacturer. He know by providing jobs to people in our community allowed them to become homeowners, send their children to college, and car owners. We believe in his vision.

            A: My passions are family, creating beauty products that make people feel good about themselves and exercising. I truly enjoy spending time with my husband and children. It’s also a privilege to work within an organization with my family and individuals that understand the consumers’ needs and wants firsthand. 

            Q: What are your brands? 

              A: We are known for our Pink and SCurl brands. Our Pink brand caters to women, and SCurl brand caters to men with textured hair.

              Q: What is in the future for Luster’s Pink?

                A: We understand that in the hair care space it is not one shoe fits all. Just like the world understands that people come in different colors, shapes, sizes and of course have different hair textures as well. We strive ourselves in continuing to innovate and provide solutions to address a variety of hair needs.

                  Q: What are your favorite products to use in your hair?

                    A: I’m currently in LOVE with our Shine & Hold Perfecting Gel, it keeps my hair shiny, plus defines my curls and does not cause a hard crunchy feel or white residue. Of course, our “OG” Pink Lotion is staple for my kids and I, the number one need of people with natural textured hair MOISTURE and our OG still delivers.

                      A: Our foundation was created over 35 years ago. We have built drinking wells in Ghana, are avid supporters of the American Cancer Society, Children’s Hospitals, Youth Organizations, as well as many other organizations that align with our mission to give back to those in our community.
