“My love affair with natural tobacco leaf as a fragrance note is no secret. Neither is my interest in classic literature and history. These all came together after rereading Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island for the first time since I was a kid. I put myself into the story and imagined what it would be like to greet the sunrise on a humid summer morning on the deck of a fully masted ship moored near a tropical shoreline. Bright citrus, tropical fruits and spices from traders mixing with the ever present rum and tobacco leaf. The aroma of florals are carried on a light breeze leading in to a warm, woodsy and slightly sweet finish. As I researched a bit more about Robert Louis Stevenson an I found that he spent his last years in Samoa where he left an indelible impression on the locals who also impacted his life in many ways. The name Tusitala means “teller of tales” in the Samoan language and was attributed to Robert Louis Stevenson posthumously by the people of Samoa.” -Chris Christiansen
