With hot summer days in full swing, I love a berry-centric perfume that feels light, airy, and optimistic. Parfums de Marly Meliora perfectly fits the bill, a cocktail of happiness encased in a beautiful, romantic bottle. It’s like living in a Bridgerton episode from start to finish—except Meliora came out in 2013, over a decade over before the show premiered December 25, 2020.
If you have yet to indulge in the colorful, whimsical, and delightful TV show Bridgerton, based on a book series by Julia Quinn, you’re missing out on a cultural phenomenon. It has influenced everything from Pat McGrath’s makeup collections to Bath & Body Works’ candle launches and has even taken the fashion world by storm. A quick Google search for Bridgerton will reveal a world of dresses and stunning tablescapes. I admit, I enjoy those girly, romantic vibes.

So, now that you get the picture of the mood, let’s return to the fragrance. Created by Master Perfumer Nathalie Lorson with founder Julien Sprecher, the perfect word to describe it is enchanting, a garden soiree of a fragrance. The air is filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the soft melodies of a string quartet, transporting everyone back to the Regency era’s elegance and charm. A long table draped in delicate lace runs the length of the garden, its surface gleaming with fine porcelain tableware and crystal glasses that catch the light just so. Candles in ornate holders flicker softly, casting a warm, inviting glow. The table is decorated with rose flower arrangements that echo the garden’s blooms. Each place setting is completed with a handwritten name card, tied with a satin ribbon in coordinating colors, ensuring every guest feels personally welcomed.

Guests are treated to an assortment of berry tarts, their golden crusts filled with luscious, ripe red berries and topped with a dusting of powdered sugar. Each bite bursts with summer’s sweet and tart flavors, perfectly balancing the richness of the buttery pastry. Jasmine tea is being served along with lemon cakes. These moist, zesty delights are glazed with tangy lemon icing, their bright flavor a refreshing contrast to the evening’s other sweet offerings. Served on delicate porcelain plates, the cakes are as much a feast for the eyes as for the palate. That’s Parfums de Marly Meliora in a nutshell. She is a mood; she is the life of a party.

I want to draw your attention to the beautiful design of the bottle. Parfums de Marly bottle is quite a work of art reminiscent of a stunning gown silhouette adorned with intricate lace and delicate embroidery. When you have multiple of them, they resemble a flock of women arriving at the ball in flowing gowns of pastel hues. Meliora captures the essence of summer: playful, charming, and irresistibly fun.
