Step Aboard is an Italian perfume house making hair and body perfumes inspired by imaginary metro lines in various cities. It launched in 2018 in Milan, which was also the inspiration for its first line of perfumes.
The brand, then followed up in 2022 with its second line inspired by London, and at Esxence was showing its latest line, inspired by Chicago.
The new line consists of three fragrances, all of which take inspiration from notable Chicago sculpture:
Silver Cloud
inspired by Anish Kapoor’s work Cloud Gate (nicknamed ‘The Bean’), a stainless-steel sculpture in Millennium Park in Chicago. Kapoor states that the work ‘gathers the viewer into itself’.
Silver Cloud was composed by Bertrand Duchaufour, who also created most of the Milan and London lines, and contains notes of grapefruit, lavender, geranium, juniper berries, incense, tonka bean, vetiver, and amber woods.
Red Flamingo
Red Flamingo is inspired by Flamingo by Alexander Calder, an iconic red sculpture that dominates Kluczynski Square in Chicago. Its flowing lines and geometric form blend harmoniously, while its bold colour is striking.
The scent was created by Arthur Marrast, and features notes of mandarin, black tea leaves, Taif rose, iris rhizomes, cedar wood, amber accord, and saffron.
Black and White
Perfume, Luca Maffei takes inspiration from the sculpture Monument with Standing Beast by Jean Dubuffet, which stands opposite the James R. Thompson Center in the Chicago Loop community area.
Notes for the Black and White include Bergamot, Aldehydes, Neroli, Jasmine, Coumarin, Musk, and Styrax.
The range is packaged in graffiti style aerosol looking cans and features a bag-on-valve system, a dispensing method consisting of a bag made of inert material, containing the product, positioned inside the spray can full of compressed air. This system enables the use and continuous dispensing of the product with any inclination of the spray-can, even upside-down.
The range has been designed to use on both hair and body.
